CHILDRENS MINISTRY COORDINATOR

FLSA STATUS: Non-exempt

SALARY: $29/hr

REPORTS TO: Executive Director

START DATE: September 2025

POSITION SUMMARY

The Children’s Ministry at Uptown Community Church is a member-led ministry that embraces the two-institution model where families lead in spiritual formation, and the church supports through sacraments, curriculum, and community care. 

The Children’s Ministry Coordinator ensures the smooth operation of the Children’s Ministry by aligning curriculum, mentoring, and family engagement with the church’s reformed values, while supporting families in the spiritual formation of their children.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Ministry Philosophy & Curriculum

  • Maintain a developmentally appropriate, engaging, and easy-to-implement curriculum.

  • Ensure that all curriculum and classroom practices reflect Reformed theological principles.

  • Coordinate children’s participation in musical worship and communion.

Mentor & Family Engagement

  • Recruit and onboard new mentors, including coordinating background checks and training.

  • Organize quarterly mentor meetings and provide guidance on classroom challenges and best practices.

  • Develop and distribute materials to help new and current families understand Sunday routines and ministry expectations.

  • Support volunteer-led efforts to connect and equip parents.

  • Support volunteer-led efforts for neighborhood renewal and community engagement.

Administration & Communication

  • Serve as the primary liaison between the Children’s Ministry team and church leadership.

  • Manage the monthly mentor schedule to ensure appropriate classroom coverage.

  • Oversee background checks, supply orders, and budget tracking for ministry resources.

  • Collaborate with other ministry teams (e.g., Greeting, Ops) to welcome new families and coordinate classroom logistics.

  • Filter and communicate feedback, suggestions, and concerns from the ministry team to leadership.

Note: “Children” includes all underage Uptowners, including MS/HS

WEEKLY WORK SCHEDULE

  • Worship Services

    • 9:30am - 12:30pm to ensure room readiness, mentor coverage, and post-service cleanup

    • Assign a backup in the event of absence; may make up missed hours during the week

  • Weekly staff meetings: Mondays 10:30am - 12pm

  • Remaining weekly hours (10.5): Flexible and remote

CANDIDATE QUALIFICATIONS

  • Personal Faith: A growing, personal relationship with Jesus Christ and a commitment to the local church; alignment with Reformed theological principles.

  • Experience: Prior experience working with children in a ministry or educational setting; experience recruiting and coordinating volunteers is preferred.

  • Leadership: Demonstrated ability to lead teams, build relationships, and foster a healthy, Christ-centered culture among children, families, and volunteers.

  • Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills; able to clearly communicate expectations and ministry vision to both mentors and parents.

  • Organizational Skills: Highly organized with attention to detail; able to manage schedules, events, supplies, and budgets efficiently.

  • Team-Oriented: Collaborative spirit with the ability to work well with church staff, ministry teams, and volunteers.

  • Dependability & Flexibility: Reliable and adaptable, with the capacity to manage changing needs and priorities within a dynamic ministry environment.

  • Commitment to Safety: Understanding of and commitment to maintaining a safe and welcoming environment for children and families.

The wage range for this role takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill set; experience and training; licensure, certifications; and other organizational needs.
