Singing with Emmanuel
We invite you to join us for SINGING WITH EMMANUEL: A Class on the Psalms with Charlie Drew on Sunday, October 11 after the worship service.
In this class, Charlie Drew will teach us how to meet Jesus throughout the Psalms, even in those places where it is hard to hear his voice. Learners will hear how to encounter God who chose to enter the human story fully, bringing fresh relevance and life to the Psalms, allowing readers to make them more fully their own in personal reflection and spiritual disciplines.
Though we often read and excerpt the Psalms more than any other writings in the Bible, it isn't always easy to find resonance in them. This is so because they aren't just songs for today. They are the ancient songs of those who are long-gone and who lived in a world that is often very different from today's. More importantly, they are the songs of Jesus, whose trust, suffering, and jubilation far exceed those of any readers. We'll start to make the connections between Jesus, ancient poetry and contemporary spirituality in this class.
Charlie Drew (BA, Harvard; M. Div., Westminister Seminary) is a retired pastor, preachers, teacher, blogger, and author living in metropolitan New York. He planted Emmanuel Presbyterian Church in New York City, the mother church of Uptown Community Church. You will currently find him on Substack ("A Pastor's Parting Shots"). His other books include The Ancient Love Song: Finding Christ in the Old Testament, A Journey Worth Taking: Finding Your Purpose in This World, and Surprised by Community: Republicans and Democrats in the Same Pew. He loves to sail and spend time with his five grand-children.

Life Groups
We’re excited to launch a new family & kid-friendly Life Group this fall! This group will be a place where families can build meaningful friendships, encourage one another, grow in faith, and create connections, while kids have opportunities to make friends too.
Whether you’re new to our church or have been here for years, we’d love for you to be part of this community. Meetings will begin in September, and we’re currently gathering interest as we plan for the year ahead.
