Going Green
By Al Santino
For the past six years members of Uptown Community Church and a group of our neighbors have been working together to beautify a lot at the corner of Fairview Ave at Broadway Terrace. What has come to be known as the Fairview Ave Lot Renewal Project began when Uptown member Dew Lizzardi and a group of her neighbors decided it was time to do something about what had been a dumping ground for over 20 years.
Due to the efforts of over 25 Uptown members and 25 community members over the years the dumping and environmental hazards have been addressed and plants and bushes now line the sidewalk and a portion of the lot. We recently hung our banner as a celebration of what the community has achieved in “going green”. Over the weekend of November 17-18 we had garden days which included the participation of our children’s ministry. This visible witness to God’s goodness has also opened the door for Gospel conversations as several of the neighbors have attended Uptown services or events. We praise the Lord for this opportunity to seek the shalom of our neighborhood!
If you are interested in becoming a member of the garden team contact Dew Lizzardi.
